Soul:ution @ botw 13.02.04
I sadly missed DJ Marky when he played Spellbound @ Sankeys, (missed him tear the roof off by all accounts), I was unfortunately unconscious on a sofa somewhere! Before that when he first played at Mr Scruffs Keep It Unreal as DJ Marky Mark I was similarly unconscious elsewhere, SO when I heard he was returning to Manchester to play Soul:ution I was there like a shot!
Third time lucky for me, and certainly for all the Soul:ution regulars who turned out on a chill February night and left Band-On-The-Wall dripping wet from the near-tropical heat! Definitely a time for Brazilian flavours then; Bryan G (V Recordings) picked up on Marky, impressed as much by his scratching skills as his South American rhythms, 'LK Carolina Carol Bella' (V) ft. XRS & Stamnia MC followed and was a big hit, and Brazil was the flavour of the summer, even J-Majik & Wickaman (Infrared) got with the carnival vibe producing 'Capoeira' with a Gil Felix vocal. Marky spring-boarded from V, set up Innerground Records with fellow countryman XRS
These two work together in the studio and here tonight play back-to-back sets. Stamina MC is additionally on hand tonight to co-host with resident DRS. Nerds might want to note that the promo Marcus Intalex is passing to Marky is none other than Calibres own Signature release 'Mr.Maverick / Highlander'
Wicked night. Far too much Red Stripe. Far too much Rum. Marky & XRS brought a piece of Brazil to Manchester tonight. My evening had yet to end though, in the mood for further mischief I head back into the badlands, soon finding myself (last photo) with a bottle of dark rum inside a decommissioned, soon-to-be-demolished Hulme pub (Sir Henry Royce). Hahahaha! Our very-own Fun-Time Flavella!! But that's a whole other story
