Friends-&-Family @ the-roadhouse 12.07.03
Will Holland aka Quantic released 2 LPs 'Apricot Morning' (2002) & 'the 5th Exotic' (2001) on Brighton's Tru Thoughts label before assembling this latest project. Will Quantic comes to Friends-&-Family Manchester with full live band, the Quantic Soul Orchestra; comprising of a Hammond organ player, 3-piece brass section, percussion, flute, drums & bass, rhythm guitar, himself on lead guitar & the inimitable Alice Russell who went on to release her own Tru Thoughts LPs 'Under A Munka Moon' (2004) & 'My Favourite Letters' (2005), providing her soulful vocals. What a belter!
That's 11 musicians crammed onto a stage more used to guitar-vocal-bass-drums groups, or just a DJ & host MC; so it got Real Hot real quick in a packed Roadhouse that night! The band run through Alice Russell & Quantic collaborations as well as tracks from debut Q.S.O LP 'Stampede' (2003). Quite a night!
