Temper (exhibition preview) @ contact 08.09.01

Contact hosts an exhibition of canvases by graffiti artist Temper. I was introduced to his artwork not through the Hulme graff-jams but through meeting Dave the Ruf Davies (Rufmouth / Mindbomb / Godfather of Weird / Jeep Beat Collective), as he blessed covers of many Ruf Beats record sleeves. When I met Ruf through a Level Magazine photo-job he proudly posed before a recently commissioned portrait of Jimi Hendrix which would eventually adorn the cover of Jeep Beat Collectives 2nd LP.

Had hoped City Life (who I freelanced for at that time) Arts Editor or Clubs Editor would be interested in covering this event but neither were, so these photos have never seen the light of day! Beautiful sunny evening preview with graf artists painting boards outside, Alix Walker warming up in the Deluxe Bar, DJ As-If (Fat City) in the main foyer space, then live performances from Microdisiacs with MC DRS, (then some rappers I have since forgotten, since I hadn't come to see them), and UKHipHop originals Krispy

Check this jewel (http://www.youtu.be/watch?v=SIsTJVXcxmg&feature=related) 'Trade Study' (1999 Damn Right) from 3rd Krispy LP 'From The Country' (1999 Bomb HipHop) as Wiz, Roots Manuva, Real Deal & Microphone D.O.N take turns over a fat Wiz beat

Had to cut the evening short before I got into DJ Woody (itf champion) and dash across town instead to Friends & Family @ the Roadhouse...
