Skittles 'Poor With £100 Trainers' launch 05.03.12

What a great way to announce what looks to be a great LP! Full Estate family out in force (reppin' For Manny) with the launch of LP 'Skittles - Poor With £100 Trainers' @ the (former) Deaf Institute. Konny Kon & MC Chunky warm the room with r'n'b & hip-hop flavours. Chimpo takes over with reggae & dancehall. Tyler Daly puts in a short 'live' performance (TBH I wasn't so impressed when they said they'd signed him up. As MC Hoodman I thought I'd heard more original material from other MCs. But that was before, as Tyler Daly, I heard him sing old-school lovers-reggae style. Boy, he has got a voice!). Strategy performs 'Marka' & our evening is hotting up nicely

Skittles Live Band (ft. Fox & DRS) perform tracks from the soon-to-be-released LP/CD, and are accompanied tonight by a four-piece string section up on the balcony, adding another layer of musicality to tracks already firing on cylinders labelled 'lyrical' 'catchy' & 'melodic'. As usual the live band put in a consistently good performance. As usual Skittles strains to get every single syllable out & often loses his way remembering his own convoluted tales, but the home audience clearly love him enough to forgive him this, and he reciprocates with an energetic encore

Broke'n'English take to the stage mid-set to give tonight's star a breather. Dubphizix comes on to round off the evening & calls upon Chimpo, DRS, Fox, Strategy & T-Man to handle the mic. But it's time to pack the camera away & hit the road for the After-Party...
