Yes people! A Happy New Year to one & all! I have moved from occasional submitter to Photo Editor at Examplemagazine.com, on-line monthly for all things cool & Mancunian, so I'm now providing features & reviews as well as images! Best to keep busy these days...
So still photographing underground music in Manchester: Last year saw ever-shifting Hit-&-Run keep its' crown as my favourite MCR clubnight. We witnessed the WHP final 12-week run at Store Street underground car-park; Our very Last Ballin' On A Budget (boozy monthly night from Broke'n'English & Friends) end in spectacular fashion; An increasingly infectious Pandemik brought fresh bookings & more than enough D'n'B mayhem; New leftfield dubstep quality from Selective Hearing; Low-key, interesting & intimate DJ sets from Secret Wars; Old-school & simple sound-clash Put Your Music Where Your Mouth Is rattled DJ reputations...
2011 was big for Manchester MCs too: Tonn Piper toured Europe with Four-Tet AND with Shaun William Ryder (Happy Mondays), Legend! Shotty Horroh continued to make his contemporaries look foolish. Jenna G added a few more belters to her list of guest-vocals. DRS finished up his D'n'B LP & a whole bunch of collaborations. His partner-in-rhyme Strategy put out his own mix-tape 'Pre Season Training', featured on Dubphizix Soul:R EP track 'The Editor' & then smashed it on Dubphizix & Skeptical's 'Marka' AND; Our favourite sweetie, Skittles burst onto stages everywhere with 'Tip-I-Cal-Ly', his first track from 2nd LP 'Poor With £100 Trainers'
I've been busy too. Rearranged the website a little, Gallery 1 is still for all Recent photography, namely club-nights I've been going to. Gallery 2 is for Heroes. Gallery 3 is Hulme & old Graffiti. Gallery 4 is HIP-HOP. Gallery 5 is Drum'n'Bass. Finally there's an Exhibitions Gallery for work previously shown in public & an Exhibition Menu-Page for all relevant links. I've also added exhibition Press & publicity. Plus! Archive Magazine assignments, as well as links to recent reviews & features written for Example magazine
