[Ex]:ample Magazine [Ex]:hibition

28th February 2014
I joined [Ex]:ample Magazine as Photography Editor late in 2009. I used to bump into James Mernagh (the editor) at various D'n'B events, complaining about the unreliability of his contributors & having to shoot events himself as a consequence.

The first thing I did was invite photographers I knew who loved club culture & music events. This became our strength.

As the 3rd year birthday approached we decided to celebrate with an exhibition @ 2022NQ. We decided on hip-hop artists as a theme, since we all had some content to contribute. On the opening night we had an amazing party with Lee Majors (More Bounce), Metrodome (Ape Cult), Konny Kon (Broke'n'English) and Mikey DON (Unity Radio) behind the decks for us, with live performances from Skittles (Estate Recordings) alongside MCs Sparkz, Rolla & Fox.

We had so much fun & gathered such a large crowd for a wet Wednesday evening that we decided to do it all over again 6 months later! Our 2nd [Ex]:ample Magazine exhibition followed the theme of our favourite 'Resident' DJs & MCs. Our opening night party this time around saw DJs from Manchester's premiere club nights representing for us: Dub Smugglers, Didjit (More Bounce), Metrodome (Levelz), Antagonist (Pandemik), Jonny Dub (Hoya:Hoya), Rich Reason (Hit & Run) and Northbase (Metropolis).

We had hoped to do many more such events but, by this time, our editor had moved to Berlin and then to South Africa. All good things must come to an end, so they say, and so we all decided to go our separate ways in February 2014. Sadly, none of the magazines previous issues exist now on-line but we still have all our hazy memories!
